Fruiting Forest

The Douglas Fruiting Forest is a collaborative project between Southeast Soil and Water Conservation District, the City & Borough of Juneau Parks, and us!

If you’re a Douglas Community Garden member you can volunteer in the Fruiting Forest as part of your annual volunteer hours.

What’s Growing

  • Strawberries
  • About 5 species of different types of currants (the plants are labeled)
  • Serviceberries
  • Raspberries
  • Gooseberries
  • Mint
  • Nettles (in the smaller upper cedar bed on the south side)
  • Rhubarb
  • Chives
  • Oregano

Future Growth

The Fruiting Forest is looking for more things to grow. If you have garlic cloves, they can be planted this fall. In the spring, potato starts can be planted.

Another need is signs, both for the Fruiting Forest and the plants. If you can make some or donate toward production, let us know.
